Found a Balloon Photograph?

Welcome.

Perhaps you or some-one you know has stumbled upon a postcard with a photo attached. Or maybe you’ve just heard about the project. Well, we’re glad that you’ve come this far. It’s a small miracle!

Where are you? - well if you have just read the opening page, you know you’re at the BALLOON DIPLOMACY Project.

What is it? and (how) am I involved?

BALLOON DIPLOMACY is a (foolhardy and earnest) attempt to reach out, to gather and to share divergent world-views.  In short, this is what has happened and will continue to happen: People are approached to take a photo, a photo which reflects or captures in some way the picture of the world that they hold. A sunrise… a sunset… mud on your shoes… a locked door… something. They have only a couple of minutes to conceive and take the shot. Then it is attached to a helium balloon and drifted across the city/state/country/world. (Click here to view some of the pictures that have been sent)

The finder is encouraged to respond in some way - to visit the site (you must already be doing that) and let us know how and where they found it (leave a message below); to take a photo of their own and submit it here; or perhaps to send their own picture off into space and begin the process again.

From time to time BALLOON DIPLOMACY will present its findings to the public through an installation detailing the impulse, the activity and the responses to the project.
